Cumberland man arrested in Greene Street stick attack
Police say an officer saw Kwame Aswad Gilcrest, 48, hit a man in the head with a large stick near George Washington's Headquarters, then run off. An arrest is not a finding of guilt.
A 48-year-old Cumberland man was arrested Sunday on a warrant charging him with assault after police say he hit another man in the head with a large stick near George Washington's Headquarters on Greene Street, the Cumberland Police Department said.
Police arrested Kwame Aswad Gilcrest on the assault warrant Oct. 18.
According to police, an officer on patrol on Oct. 17 saw Gilcrest strike another man in the head with a large stick near the historic cabin on Greene Street. The man was injured, police said, and Gilcrest ran off before officers could stop him.
Police did not release the injured man's name or describe the extent of his injuries.
Charges are allegations. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
