CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Cumberland man has been charged with second-degree assault following an investigation into a September incident in which he allegedly pointed what appeared to be a firearm out of a window toward a passerby.

Jonthon Hartman, 35, of Cumberland, was served with a criminal summons on October 9, according to a report published by Shore News Network.

Investigation Followed Citizen Complaint

According to the report, the incident occurred on September 29 after a private citizen alleged that Hartman pointed a weapon out of a window in the direction of someone passing by.

Investigators later determined that the weapon was a replica rather than an actual firearm.

An application for criminal charges was submitted by a private citizen, and a summons was subsequently issued charging Hartman with second-degree assault.

Officers later located Hartman and served him with the summons.

Released Pending Trial

Hartman was released pending trial following service of the summons. Additional details about the alleged confrontation, including the identity of the person who reported the incident, have not been publicly disclosed in the report.

The charge remains an allegation, and Hartman is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
