Free flu shots in Oakland, Kitzmiller and Grantsville this week
The Garrett County Health Department holds flu shot clinics Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with no out-of-pocket cost for the shot.
The Garrett County Health Department is holding three flu shot clinics this week, starting Monday in Oakland, and says no one will pay out of pocket for a flu shot, whether or not they have insurance.
This week's clinics:
- Monday, Oct. 19: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Garrett County Health Department, 1025 Memorial Drive, Oakland
- Wednesday, Oct. 21: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Kitzmiller Senior Center
- Friday, Oct. 23: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Grantsville Senior Center, 125 Durst Court, Grantsville
The department asks people to bring their insurance card. It will bill insurance plans, including Medicare Part B, where they apply, but the flu shot itself carries no out-of-pocket cost for anyone.
The 2026-27 COVID-19 vaccine will also be available, according to the department. Unlike the flu shot, the COVID vaccine carries a fee if insurance or Medicare Part B does not cover it. The schedule describes the senior center sessions as flu clinics, so anyone hoping for a COVID shot may want to call ahead to confirm which location offers it.
Each date on the department's flu page links to an online sign-up form. The department notes that clinic times and the vaccines offered can change, and it sends updates by email.
More clinics are scheduled after this week:
- Monday, Nov. 2, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Health Department, Oakland
- Friday, Nov. 6, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Grantsville Senior Center
- Monday, Nov. 16, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Health Department, Oakland
- Friday, Nov. 20, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Grantsville Senior Center
- Monday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Health Department, Oakland

Earlier clinics this month were held in Oakland and at the Friendsville, Swanton and Grantsville senior centers.
